The Balvenie Double Wood
12 Year
Call me a sucker for gimmicks, but the idea of first maturing the whisky in traditional bourbon oak casks and then finishing it in sherry, was quite intriguing to me. Add to that the romance of the fact that The Balvenie is one of the few distilleries that still malts its own barley and I was sold.
Amber in color and sweet in flavor, it did not disappoint. I am not sure if it was the fact that it was aged in sherry casks, but I swore it was sweeter than usual with a touch of fruitiness, but still mellow. A great drink after dinner.
