Social media has always trumpeted itself as a new, better way to connect and communicate. And although I am a firm believer in the power of technology to improve our lives, I have begun to re-evaluate the value of this new tech.
It’s no secret that I am a Pink Floyd fan and I am very much aware that I have been terribly fortunate to have seen Roger Waters perform multiple times. When Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, was playing the historic Olympia theater in Paris I naturally had to go.
Since I was a kid I have loved Pink Floyd. Seeing Roger Waters perform a classic set from Pink Floyd as well as selections of his new work, I really started thinking about what the music means to me and how much of it speaks very clearly to our times.
Nearly ten years ago, we were fortunate enough to be invited to Carl’s wedding. Last weekend, nearly ten years after the wedding, we enjoyed a lunch together with a stunning view of the old town of Stockholm and that familiarity and connection hadn’t diminished. But where had the ten years gone?
After the election, I instituted a personal embargo of the news and popular culture. But if ever we were in need of a bold, idealistic vision it is now. Let’s start 2017 by remembering our idealism and re-committing ourselves to a vision of a future which is better for all of us.
