This year for our regular escape from winter we boarded the plane truly ignorant of our destination of Costa Rica, but quickly learned about this fascinating, friendly, and colorful country. Discovery truly is bliss.
We continued our yearly tradition of celebrating the new year with our dear friends Thorsten and Verena, but this year Elise discovered a torchlit forest hike to an Alsatian castle ruin where we toasted the arrival of midnight with champagne around a bonfire. Happy 2018!
We had been wanting to meet up with our friends Thorsten and Verena for a while and as luck would have it, Verena chose a hiking route on Kaiserstuhl, one of our favorite regions in Germany on the edge of the Black Forest, where we enjoyed the most beautiful, golden autumn afternoon.
The Kaltbrunnental is an eight (or so) kilometer-long, narrow karst valley full of waterfalls, springs, caves, and the icy cold Ibach river. I have driven through or past it many times, so when I finally decided to explore it on foot this weekend, it was only fitting that the car was left behind.
