The Hauff Ancient History Museum in Holzmaden is not far from Stuttgart at the foot of the Swabian Jura. This area used to be covered by an ancient sea, home to prehistoric sea life. The Swabian Jura shale preserved these prehistoric sea creatures marvelously. The shale quarries in the area are still mined today, and specimens are continuously found.
